Past Life Regressions - The What's

What is a past life regression - Well a past life regression based on my definition involves a participant who either with the help of a hypnotist or meditation guide (human or recording) has an experience of living another life, sometimes many centuries ago, sometimes just a few decades.   The participant sets the parameters for the session by focusing on a specific topic or question that they would like to explore.

What does it feel like - This is different for each person.  When using a meditation approach the participant remembers the whole event and may think of it as a daydream. If done in a group setting or with a recording (Past Life Regression/Mediation CD) then the participant would be wise to write down the event when complete.  So they can use it as a reference later on as the memory usually fades over time.

When using a hypnotic approach the participant may or may not remember the session (I try to record them both with a digital recorder and written notes during the session).  My last client remarked that she had only a vague memory of the events until I went over the notes with her, also she found it amusing that she did not remember her lips moving (aka talking) during  the session but the recording was there of her own words. I feel that this is a key element in the process. When the participant hears their own words and descriptions about past events they are able to connect with any messages that are delivered.  They can choose to trust their own words or not.  I am merely providing them the opportunity to explore - the information is all theirs.

I should also state that the particular method I use involves a question and answer period with the participant’s subconscious/higher consciousness. This is also the trickiest part as the participant if in a hyper-aware state will often think they are making it up and end up having a mental battle in their head about the information that is being shown.  If they are in a fully relaxed state the information comes through easily.

There is another type of Past Life practitioner that does a Past Life reading.  I have no experience with this particular method, however, from what I have been able to determine the practitioner goes into a meditative state and relays the information to the participant. If anyone has had one of these sessions I would love more info on the process and your overall feeling about it.  I enjoy the process of self-discovery and somehow think having a past life reading would not be nearly as fun as seeing it for myself.

*There is something known as future lives, but I have not ventured down that path yet - I am sure I will one day.  (This topic delves into quantum physics and I am not sure I am ready to jump the blog into that arena yet.)

Moving Through Time

This past week was busy with 3 past life regressions.  Each one was amazing in its own way - two of them focused on a single lifetime while one touched on several lifetimes and even had time in the waiting to be born space.  It is always cool to me when someone talks about going through the birth process.  While not common it does happen on occasion (twice so far this year), the subject was both excited and apprehensive about the journey ahead, however, there was also amazement and the wonder of feeling so loved by the parent(s).

It is more common to go through the death process in the lifetimes revealed, sometime the exact moment is experienced and sometimes it is glossed over.  This week included one where a Native South American was killed by Spaniards after being forced to watch his tribesmen slain first.  He was very noble and died an honorable death. He had no regrets.  I must say this has not happened often during a session, many times there is regret and loneliness expressed during the death process. As part of the regression we discuss these events and the significance to the person and how they play apart in their current life.

I must admit I find it fascinating, there is so much similarity in the theme of life and so much difference, too.  It doesn't matter what era or culture similarities prevail however the differences are in the details and what choices were made along the way.

Past Life Regressions

Most people know me as a wife, a mother, or an accountant, however, I have a secret hobby. I perform past life regressions using hypnosis. It all started with a book called Convoluted Universe by Dolores Cannon. I was hooked before I finished the book and knew I had to learn how do this particular method. So I signed up for one of her classes in Arkansas, yet, the universe had some other plans and it was about a year before I was able to take the class. I eventually organized a class in Atlanta and Dolores came and taught the class at a local book store that has teaching space for classes, meditation etc... It was an amazing 3 days which has opened my mind to many new and amazing insights about myself and the world around me. The person I am now has grown directly from this chance encounter with that book and the direction I took after reading it.

So after learning this process I began practicing on friends and family or anyone that would submit to a relaxing session of laying on the sofa while I hypnotized them. To those courageous people, I thank you for submitting to sessions in order to appease my curiosity and desire for experience. I have enjoyed every session, every minute detail and amazing revelation. Over time and through connections that I can't begin to explain people began calling me for sessions and the fun really began.

NOTE***I am going to say contrary to what I have seen others (mostly skeptics) write I have never had anyone who said they were someone famous during a regression. All my clients have been everyday people leading everyday lives just in different times. They are all dealing with the highs and lows of life and looking for the path that will lead them to greater understanding. I do not claim that what they say or experience is a factual truth but is instead a different perspective. A way to gain a broader view of life instead of the myopic "I" - the saying, "Can't see the forest through the trees," comes to mind.  Past life regressions are a tool to understanding or seeing the bigger picture.

There are a variety of reasons for seeking to experience a past life regression. I know I did it because I wanted to know what it was like. To see if I had past life memories and if I could be hypnotized. Others too have sought sessions out of curiosity, others are troubled by events they can't quite grasp and others are seeking to break from old behavior patterns.

So why a blog? A friend who is a blogger suggested I give it a shot.  As both a way to generate discussion and connect with others seeking more information. I cannot promise great consistency as the day job and family like to shake things up once in a while but we will take it one day at a time.
